EDU-Nix Dual Mode CD Version II

EDU-Nix Open Source Schoolware Dual Mode CD Version II Now Available.

Version two of the EDU-Nix Open Source Schoolware Dual Mode CD is based upon the Slax Live CD, and includes even more Free Software for Windows computers than before.

The Live CD environment is feature-packed and includes Wine, Samba and the TSClient for simple integration into your existing Windows network as well as the Gimp-Print and Gutenprint drivers, providing compatibility with many common printers.

The EDU-Nix Live CD Environment provides a fully functional desktop environment that can seamlessly integrate into your existing computer infrastructure, in addition to the Free Software for Windows also included on the same disc.

New Features For Version II

  • Slax-Based Live Linux CD allows for various new features
  • Fluxbox window manager will load on low-ram systems instead of the K Desktop Environment, making the Live CD more usable on older hardware.
  • Windows Autorun installer menu, using the CuteStarter Installer a free project that provides a simple autorun menu installer that I was able to run under Wine. Simply select the package you want to install, click "Install Now" and Setup will begin.
  • Create the EDU-Nix.org SlaxCenter, a repository of articles on customizing slax, as well as update modules including modules not included on EDU-Nix releases.

A listing of the packages included in Version II is now available, I will be working on a new License Matrix as was provided for Version I. Of course, I am not as adept at Slackware as Gentoo yet, so its slow going...
