What is a Live CD?

The CD includes a complete computer Operating System and numerous software packages, by booting your computer from the CD you can run all of these programs on any PC without having to install anything on the hard drive.

The CD is portable, is compatible with most modern PCs and contains software for practicing Math, Science, Vocabulary, Geography, Latin, Touch-Typing as well as the OpenOffice Suite, Web Browser and Instant Messenger, Strategy and Card games, plus more.

The EDU-Nix live CD is truly a mobile computer system that will help ensure students can always access the software they need for school work.

What are the Minimum System Requirements for EDU-Nix?

Live CD:
  • 192MB RAM (256 or more recommended)
  • CD-ROM Drive (The faster, the better)
  • BIOS that supports booting from CD-ROM
  • 800 x 600 or higher resolution with at least 256 colours
Windows Software:
  • Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 (SP2 or higher), Windows XP, Windows 2003
  • 128 Mbytes RAM (256 or more recommended)
  • 200 Mbytes available disk space
  • 800 x 600 or higher resolution with at least 256 colours

How do I install the Windows software?

  1. When you insert the CD in your PC CD-ROM, the Autorun feature may start if enabled on your machine. Currently, the Autorun defaults to installing OpenOffice.org.
  2. If Autorun does not start, or in order to install Tux Paint, Tux Type or Tux Math you can go to My Computer and right-click on the EDU-Nix Live CD. Choose the installation option from the menu.
  3. Alternatively, you can also explore to the files subdirectory of the CD to launch an individual installer.
